A trip to Williamsburg, Virginia should be in your list of family vacation ideas. Williamsburg is one of the cities included in the Historic Triangle of Virgina, along with Jamestown and Yorktown. There are a lot of interesting sights that come with equally interesting facts in Williamsburg that will tickle the minds of parents, teens and younger children.
Going to Williamsburg is very convenient. It is only a few hours away from Washington, DC, and certainly within driving distance for Atlanta and Jacksonville, Florida. Williamsburg is particularly known for Colonial Williamsburg. It is a 301-acre community of restored 18th century infrastructures. You will find yourself going back in time as you wander about the buildings, houses, shops, taverns, outbuildings and other structures in their original foundation. The highlights of Colonial Williamsburg are the historic sites - Governor’s Palace, Capitol, Peyton Randolph, Releigh Tavern, George Wythe House and James Geddy House and Foundry - and the indoor museums - Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum and DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum.
A family vacation is not complete without spending a day at a theme park! Visit Williamsburg’s Busch Gardens and experience thrilling rides. Get ready to have your heartbeat racing as you ride the Loch Ness Monster roller coaster and Griffon (the world’s tallest and first floorless dive coaster). Also, if your family love scary stories and fright attractions, be sure to visit the theme park’s Howl-O-Scream and scream all your lungs out!
Have a great family bonding time at Williamsburg’s Go-Karts Plus. The attraction spans eight acres with four tracks for the whole family to enjoy. Race around an oval track on a replica of your favorite NASCAR automobiles. There are other activities in Go-Karts Plus that promise loads of fun for the family such as the Kiddie Land, bumper cars, bumper boats, miniature golf course, arcade and other games with prizes.
Visit Historic Yorktown, Historic Jamestown and President’s Park and learn history with your children while exploring the different sights, studios, galleries and museums dedicated to preserving the American heritage. From these attractions, you will also get the chance to learn about the early permanent English settlements in the country. Do not forget to spend some time learning about the Native American heritage and visit the Powhatan Indian Village nearby, which was home to Pocahontas.
Weird mind-boggling facts are what Ripley’s Believe It Or Not is known for. Take your kids to see exhibits of over 300 unusual artifacts Robert Ripley has gathered from his travels around the world, if you wish to see more of interesting global facts. The best part of this experience is that, no matter how odd the things you see are, they are all real! Believe it!
The idea of going on a family vacation is to discover as much as you can about the place you visit. These are just some of the things you can do in Williamsburg, Virginia. Nearby cities in Williamsburg also offer a different set of attractions and activities for the family that you might want to check out. The Virginia Arts Festival in Norfolk, Virginia coming on the 23rd until the 25th of May this year, for instance, promises participants and spectators a fun time of great music and other things. It will be the ultimate weekend in one of the country’s most historic settings.
The museums, other historical sights and the more energy-required attractions like the Busch Gardens and the Go-Kart Plus really make the trip to Williamsburg, Virginia a complete package for family fun. No doubt, you can count on this as one of the best family vacation ideas you have ever had.

A Honeymoon in Belize is becoming a popular option, and the hard part then is putting together a honeymoon package, after deciding where to stay. A good choice would be the Xanadu Island resort on Ambergris Caye.
A Honeymoon resort benefits from being small, and Xanadu Island resort has only eighteen rooms, right on the beachfront within ten minutes walk of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye
The kind of accommodation you might decide to take on your honeymoon package could well be Suite number two which is an oceanfront loft with views to die for. Get up early, about half past six, make a cup of coffee in the kitchen, go outside onto the deck, and watch the sunrise, and if you do this once, you’ll do it everyday.
Ambergris Caye is a real island getaway, and Xanadu Island resort even more so. It is hidden on a beach lined with palm trees, and what you see from your dawn and daily outlook is the turquoise Caribbean, and the white line of the reef.
The breakdown of the accommodations is a Studio, Loft, or 1,2,or3 bedrooms. Each suite is airconditioned, plus ceiling fans, cable Television, unlimited internet access, as if you’d want that on your Belize honeymoon!! Added to that hairdryers, safe, beach towels, and not forgetting your own private deck which is shaded from the sun.
There is a long pier with a thatched shade at the end and a swimming platform, so you can snorkel over the hotel’s own man made reef. There is a lovely pool, and loads of hammocks and sunbeds around the pool and on the beach.
The complimentary bikes and kayaks allow you to explore Ambergris Caye, and the bicycles are especially useful to take you into San Pedro to the great restaurants there. If your honeymoon in Belize isn’t to be just relaxing at the Xanadu, but you wish to be more energetic, then why not try Scuba Diving, sailing, fishing or take a guided eco tour to the rainforest.. In addition tours to Mayan ruins can easily be arranged.
Whilst there is no restaurant at the resort, this won’t detract from your honeymoon vacation at all, after all who needs boring hotel restaurant food anyway. There are two local markets close by, so snack meals can easily be organised in the kitchen which is very well equipped.
Some suggestions for feeding yourself are George’s for breakfast, Casa Picasso for dinner, Crazy Canuck’s Bar on the beach, and Monkey Bites for breakfast or lunch
The management team at the Xanadu Island Resort go out of their way from even before you arrive for your honeymoon in Belize to ensure you have an enjoyable and stress free time. From the immaculately maintained property, well looked after rooms, nothing is left to chance, even ensuring flights and taxis are all there when you need them.
Xanadu Island Resort on Ambergris Caye could give you the perfect honeymoon in Belize, and research shows that most people who have gone there for their Belize Honeymoon would return.

It’s been 16 years since early season snow conditions were this good. Stay, play and parlay your style into lodging that suits you. It’s up to you to decide where you want to find a room and park your board. You can go low-end or high-end, from mountain hostels to luxurious castles. The range of accommodations is literally all over the map in this province, putting you in reach of some of the best and most varied terrain in the world. Check out your options below.
Fortress Mountain
Sunshine Village
Lake Louise
Castle Mountain
Ski Banff @ Norquay
Nakiska
Marmot Basin
Fortress Mountain Brings It On: Affordability
Fortress Mountain has been brought back to life by a new owner, Zrinko Amerl, who says Fortress this year brings affordability to skiing in the Canadian Rockies. There will be on-hill accommodation deals for under $100 during the season that riders should appreciate. And the lift prices rock as well: adult daily passes will be just $40 (you pay only $30 midweek). Finally, for powder-seeking hounds, access to the far side of the mountain this year will be by a ‘Cat’ shuttle.
Sunshine Village’s Hot Tub Heaven
Sunshine Village, has renovated 56 of 84 rooms in the on-hill Sunshine Inn at a price tag of $30,000 per room. You won’t have to pay nearly that much to stay there and enjoy first, fresh snow. The value season began Nov. 10 and it runs until just before Christmas, and then again for most of January and May. So you can get in on some great deals. And while you’re staying in this ski-in, ski-out lodge that can be reached only by gondola, you can enjoy one of the largest outdoor hot tubs in Canada. Otherwise, the Banff Alpine Centre, is rated ‘top 10′ among 5,000 hostels worldwide.
You can also check out Banff area hotels that provide many choices, from budget to luxury. An alternative is the boutique property The Juniper Banff, located just outside the town of Banff , which offers easy access to skiing at Sunshine Village, Lake Louise and Ski Banff @ Norquay.
Go High At Lake Louise
Lake Louise is a scenic destination that provides a premiere view if you gain air. The resort has consistently won the ‘most scenic’ categories in various magazines over the years. The Showtime Terrain Park features tables ranging from 15 to 75 feet, rails over 40 feet long, boxes, quarter pipes, super pipe and new additions weekly. But where do you stay? Recommended by the popular travel guide Let’s Go, the Lake Louise Alpine Centre is located in the heart of world famous Lake Louise village in the Canadian Rockies. Other choices that will require more financial muscle power include The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, the Post Hotel (chosen by Outside Magazine in its November issue as one of the top five ski or ride lodges in North America) and Baker Creek
Chalets.
Castle Mountain : Steep, Deep, Cheap
Steeper, deeper, cheaper, friendlier. That’s this mountain’s mantra and what’s not to love if you’re a rider? In southern Alberta near Pincher Creek, just two hours south of Calgary, Castle Mountain has great Ski ‘n Sleep packages and a wide range of accommodations – along with premier stashes of powder. “You can rent everything from a refurbished church to a ranch house to a hotel, it just depends on who’s looking for what,” says Andrew Rusynyk, Director of Marketing and Snowsports and Development. On-hill accommodations include Castle Mountain Ski Lodge and Hostel, and Castle Mountain Accommodations.
Norquay’s Lit Up
Ski Banff @ Norquay in Banff National Park features the only night skiing in the Bow Valley and has the only lit terrain park. Those advantages translate into more time to ride. It is close to the town of Banff and all the nightlife the mountain town has to offer. Accommodations in Banff range from the budget conscious Banff Alpine Centre to a world famous castle, Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, as well as a boutique hotel, The Juniper Banff. Rustic to modern, secluded or downtown, one-two-three-four-five beds, luxury or kitchen-equipped and mountain views, it’s all available.
Nakiska’s Olympic Legacy
Nakiska is just minutes from The Kananaskis Village and its lodgings. The village was built for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and it’s geared primarily for families and riders from Calgary who are out for quick trips, as it’s less than an hour’s drive from the city. You can find affordable places to stay here, depending on your budget.
Marmot Basin’s Inside Beauty
Marmot Basin is at the small mountain town of Jasper in the Canadian Rockies, so you can get good ski packages, as it’s more remote than some of the resorts and generally less crowded. Many boarders access Marmot and Jasper through Edmonton. You’ll find that accommodations in Jasper are constantly being upgraded with a wide range of choices. There are oversized rooms downtown, family-style units with kitchens and even private lakeshore cabins. Ski and snowboard packages, including accommodation and lift tickets, are available at all 14 Ski Jasper properties. And this year there’s a great deal for three nights of skiing/riding and accommodation for the price of two. It’s best to contact the hotels directly for more information. If looking for upscale accommodations, try the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.
Editor’s Note: We at Travel Alberta encourage people to check out our listed ski tour operators and other winter activities. Combine a ski holiday with a train trip, a scenic drive, a spectacular meal or a guided nature walk. It’s all great and it’s all here.
